Her Last Holiday by C.L. Taylor

Her Last Holiday is the latest thriller from C.L. Taylor and I enjoyed it immensely!

Fran’s sister, Jenna, disappeared on a Soul Shrink wellness retreat on the island of Gozo where two other members of the retreat also died in tragic circumstances. Whilst Jenna’s body was never found, she was declared dead and the death ruled a suicide by the local police.

Tom Wade, the charismatic founder of Soul Shrink, serves two years in prison for his part in the deaths, but he is now free once again and has another retreat lined up. Fran uses a false identity and signs up to the retreat, determined to find out for once and for all what happened to her sister. But she is not the only one on the retreat who is haunted by the ghosts of Gozo. It soon becomes clear that Fran herself may now be in danger if she tries to dig too deeply in to what actually happened to Jenna…

This is a really well paced novel and the perfect summer read for all of you thriller fans! Each chapter is told from the point of view of one of three different characters and jumps back in forth to the retreat then in Gozo and the retreat now in Wales. We get to see how the story unfolds from different angles, and see the truth, the lies and the misunderstandings unfold along the way. I particularly like that each woman’s voice and character is quite distinctive. They are each motivated by different things, and I enjoyed seeing how each of them interpreted some of the same interactions in completely different ways.

This is a book that will keep you guessing throughout on exactly what happened to Jenna, who was involved and where they are now. This is my second novel from C. L. Taylor and I enjoyed it as much as the one I read last year, so I will definitely be picking up more of her works in the future.

Thank you to Avon Books and to NetGalley for the gifted audiobook of Her Last Holiday.
