The start of a new year is always a time when we look ahead, make plans and think about the things we’d like to achieve in the year. I’m not one for resolutions, but I do always like to take a look ahead to the books which are coming out and make a list of the ones I’m most excited for!
So here it is: a list of six of my most anticipated reads in 2023. Please do let me know which ones you are looking forward to!
This is surely going to be the memoir of the year, right? Hearing from a member of the Royal Family in their own words is a rare thing, and I am so looking forward to getting to read this one. It’s going to be divisive, and I’m sure some people will have their opinions without ever reading a word.
A queer historical romance full of hidden secrets. Set in fourteenth century Oxfordshire, this sounds as though it has A Midsummer Night’s Dream vibes and I’m very excited to read it!
A dark academia tale set in a gothic museum, this one really appeals to me on so many levels. I love an atmospheric read with hints of magic. It sounds like it may be in the same ballpark as Bridget Collins and I adored both of her recent novels.
Macbeth is one of my all time favourite Shakespeare plays. It has it all: mystery, murder and magic! So when I heard that a novel was coming out about the woman who inspired one of the most famous female characters in history then I knew it would be straight on to my list for the year!
There have a number of wonderful historical fictions in recent years set against the backdrop of the witch hunts of the 1600s. It’s a period of history I am particularly interested in so I am particularly looking forward to this one, inspired by the real life trials which took place in East Anglia.
When Kiran announced this on her social media last year, she said her mantra had been ‘Write your Sabriel’ when she was writing this first in a new trilogy. If you have followed me for a little while on Instagram then you’ll know that that trilogy is one of my all time favourites (Lirael even had a starring role in my wedding!) Couple that with my love for Kiran’s writing style, and you have a book I am hugely excited for.
