Welcome to my blog!

Funnily enough, the last thing I thought I wanted to do was start a blog about books. I have blogged in the past and I know how big a commitment it can be, and I just wasn’t sure I had time for one right now. I set up my JoanneReadsBooks bookstagram account instead as a microblog but, as time went on, I was missing that ability to write longer pieces about the books I love. So here we are: Joanne Reads Book the blog is finally born (even if it took the scenic route!)

I have loved books ever since I was a little girl and would happily sit in a corner for hours with my latest book (or an old favourite). By the time I left primary school, I had read every book the school owned and it was no surprise to anyone that knew me that I studied English Literature at A-Level and then at University.

Whilst I do enjoy the classics, there is a special place in my heart for contemporary works and I went on to study for an MA on that very subject.

Flash forward a few years and real life got in the way of my reading; I found that I didn’t have time for books the way I used to. I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to work as a private English tutor and that time I spent talking to students about the texts they were studying for school made me realise just how much I missed literature. As with everything in life, we learn to make the time for things that matter and since I started tutoring 3 years ago, I have made time to read more and more for myself as well as for my students.

So, what can you expect from Joanne Reads Books? In all honesty, I’m not even sure myself yet. I will be talking about the books I’ve read, my thoughts on them and the books I want to read as a result. We may have readalongs and quizzes and recommendation lists – who knows? It is all a bit exciting really. Regardless, I am looking forward to having a place to write some long form responses to the books I have read. I have found the Bookstagram community to be so lovely and have met people from all around the world who share this passion of mine and my hope is that this blog is an extension of that.

If you have made it this far, I thank you. I hope you continue to join me on this journey; it may be a bit rambling at times but I am certainly looking forward to it!
